Description
Sweet Tilly, I can’t believe we almost walked past her pen because we thought she was dead. I decided I was going to do an honorary post for all the horses that we don’t make it on time to help, when we realized she was still breathing. On March 8th, Tilly was released from the equine hospital, and we brought her to SMRR to finish out her quarantine. She’s only 9 years old, by the way! It’s insane to me that 4 days ago we couldn’t convince her to get up. Brook and I tried and she would throw herself back down. Her eyes were open, but her expression was so empty. She had given up. To see her now, nickering every time we walk past her pen… I’m so grateful we saw you that day, Tilly! Here’s to many more MUCH better years ahead ♥️ Sharing these body condition photos so we can all be amazed what she looks like in 30 days!
Update, March 24th, 2025
I'm so sorry to say that we said goodbye to Tilly today. She did so well all weekend and then today I got a call that she had gone down and wasn't strong enough to stand any longer. We fought SO hard to keep her with us but it became unfair to keep her here when her body was so tired and ready to go. We're not sure why she continued to lose strength in her back end. It may have had to do with her mass pushing on her spinal cord, could have been EPM related, could have been a number of things we couldn't see that were going on. We are all crushed. We've lost 5 horses this month and this will be the 6th. I was really holding onto Tilly's journey through the grief of the others, she was my little spark. The little train that could. I feel like I'm still in shock we lost her as well. I'm sorry to share such sad news one after the other, but I also feel an obligation to share news this big. Pray for our team, we've been going through it this month. We love you so much Tilly. I'd give away all my dollars to see you running full speed happy and healthy. And now you are. Run fast sweet girl
